Description
Only 25 of these trains were built between 1941- 1944.
This particular locomotive was built in 1941 and was retired in December 1961 ending a 20 year service.
Some call it a 4-8-8-4, meaning it has 4 wheels in the front, 8 driver wheels and then another 8 wheels and then 4 more supporting.
It returned to service in 2019 and now travels through major US cities so the public can get an up close and personal view as it travels down the tracks.
It is really a beautiful train to see in action.
There are seven Big Boys on public display in various cities around the country. They can be found in St. Louis, Missouri; Dallas, Texas; Omaha, Nebraska; Denver, Colorado; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Green Bay, Wisconsin; and Cheyenne, Wyoming.
